Yemeni Parliamentarians Against Corruption (YPAC) launched its new project funded by OXFAM Novib through which it will establish a parliamentary group to monitor grants and loans made to the Yemeni government by international financial institutions and other donors.
A three day workshop to launch the project was held in Amman, Jordan from the 8th to the 10th of November, 2014. The workshop was attended by 25 participants from the Yemeni Parliament, including parliamentarians, members of permanent committees in the parliament, and a number of parliamentary staff. The workshop was also attended by a representative of the Executive Bureau (for the Acceleration of Aid Absorption and Support for Policy Reforms) in Yemen, which is the body in charge of accelerating the disbursement of donor pledges while increasing transparency and accountability. The World Bank office in Yemen was also represented in this workshop. Since the World Bank is the most influential donor in Yemen, BIC was asked to present to the participants the different available opportunities in the Bank’s policies and practices that would enable the parliamentarians to monitor its activities in the country.
One of the outcomes of the workshop is an action plan for the monitoring group which was designed by YPAC.
