As a constituent and strong supporter of environmental and social causes, I urge you to ensure that the World Bank safeguards review addresses the concerns of civil society and communities. Creating and enforcing rigorous safeguards should be the top priority of the World Bank Group.
In particular, the World Bank must ensure that borrower governments are fully prepared with the capacity and resources to implement safeguard requirements, that key environmental and social assessments and consultations take place before project approval, and that safeguards cover the entire World Bank lending portfolio.
If the World Bank is serious about its twin goals to eliminate extreme poverty and boost shared prosperity, the time has come to invest in the strongest possible protections for the poor and the planet.
