Nominations for UNREDD and FCPF Civil Society Observers
The Bank Information Center is pleased to announce the nomination lists for the Civil Society Observer positions at the UNREDD Programme and the Forest Carbon Partnership Facility. Civil Society Observers attend the meetings of the UNREDD Policy Board and the FCPF Participants Committee, representing views of civil society networks in their respective regions. At this time the self selection process is being held for CSO Observers from Asia, Africa and Latin America for the UNREDD and FCPF, and for the developed countries observer for the UNREDD. The developed country observer self selection process for the FCPF was held earlier this year. This process is for civil society observers only; separate processes are organized to select Indigenous Peoples Observers for both initiatives. There was strong interest in observer positions in all regions, especially Africa, with diverse nominations from a large range of environmental, human rights, labor, women’s, youth, farmer, community, research and development organizations. The lists of observer candidates by region can be found below. We wish to thank all of the organizations that submitted observer nominations. A few observer nominations we rejected, generally because they were from organizations not based in a UNREDD or FCPF participating country, or were an academic or public-private institution, not a regional civil society organization. Those few organizations whose nominations were not accepted are being notified this week.
A note on the voting process
The Bank Information Center is facilitating a new system of voting, based on the use of a secure voting platform and lists of voters assembled for each region. Ballots will go out today or shortly thereafter and voting will remain open for two weeks. If you do not receive a ballot and would like to participate, please contact info@bicusa.org. We ask everyone’s patience while we get this new system up and running, as it should provide both a better voting platform and the expansion of REDD+ related regional list-serves to make observer communications more transparent, inclusive and effective.
