As Under Secretary for International Affairs, Lael advanced the Obama administration’s agenda on the global economy. During her tenure, she played major roles in the rebalancing of China’s economy and in dealing with Europe’s debt crisis. In addition to these global economic challenges, the Under Secretary for International Affairs is responsible for addressing development, climate change, and food security – thus playing an important role in government relations with International Financial Institutions.
