In order to include the views and voices of children in the World Bank safeguards review, BIC is coordinating youth consultations in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East. On September 3rd and 4th, BIC co-organized a consultation with Democracy School in Sana’a, Yemen.

Completion of the “World Bank Safeguard Policies training workshop”

“Today marked the conclusion of a workshop and consultation on World Bank safeguard policies in Sana’a targeting members from the Children’s Parliament and leaders of the future. The workshop lasted three days and was conducted by the Bank Information Center (BIC) and the Democracy School. Participants received training and clarification on the World Bank’s safeguards that must be adhered to in all countries where the World Bank operates, including in Yemen, as well as examples of particular Bank projects that impact children. This workshop was the first to be implemented in the Arab world that is geared towards children participants.
Prior to the workshop, the participants visited the World Bank office in Yemen to learn more about its activities in Yemen and the nature of its work.

The training was attended by Elana Berger, who is responsible for the child rights program at the Bank Information Center in Washington, as well as Ebrahim AlHarazi, responsible for communications at the World Bank’s Yemen office, and who attended as an observer.”
