Several organizations of the Peruvian civil society expressed in a press release published in the Peruvian newspaper Peruvian La Republica, their rejection of a proposal led by the Ministry of Finance of “economic measures for the revival of the Peruvian economy” which was presented by the Executive to the Congress of the Republic of Peru. The proposal aims to significantly weaken the authority of the Ministry of Environment (MINAM) in areas regarding Maximum Permissible Limits and Environmental Quality Standards and its authority to establish Reserve Zones as an initial step to determine protected areas under the National Service of Protected Natural Areas (SERNANP). In addition, the proposal seeks to limit the authority and capacity of the Sanctioning and Assessment of Environmental Control Agency (OEFA) and to limit the inter-sectorial coordination for the approval of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).
