Project area experiences flooding as ADB staff attends the meeting.
On March 20, the affected community members of the ADB-financed Chashma Right Bank Irrigation Project assembled for the Chashma Lok Sath, where they presented their testimonies and discussed the expected agreement between the government and ADB regarding remedial actions. Two ADB officers attended the meeting, during an occasion when the whole project area was flooded. Attendees, including the ADB staff, had to cross the floodwater in order to reach the village Qaboolwali.
The affected peoples are expected to convey their collective decision from the Lok Sath soon. They are presently requesting the ADB to disclose the “Back to ADB Mission Office Report,” in order that they are made aware of how the meetings with the villagers will be presented to ADB management.
Since the approval of the Chashma Inspection Panel Recommendations last year, the affected communities have been requesting, to no avail, that they be part of the deliberations of finalizing the Action Plan that will offer material redress to the affected communities.
