The workshop Oslo REDD Exchange 2011 was organized by Norway’s International Climate and Forest Initiative (NICFI) and the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad), on 23-24 June 2011.
The main aim of the Exchange was to promote the social sustainability of REDD+ and to inform ongoing activities, national policies and international negotiations. Key note speakers from civil society, private sector and government spoke and discussed issues of
• Safeguards processes
• Drivers of deforestation and forest degradation
• Indigenous peoples and forest communities: Effective participation in REDD+
• Developing efficient and effective national REDD+ policies.
The Exchange was attended by more than 200 REDD+ practitioners and technical experts, donors, researchers, indigenous peoples, civil society organizations and international organizations, all directly involved in “making REDD+ work”. The Exchange was informal and the participants from more than 50 countries attended in their personal capacities.
