A group of Egyptian civil society participants in the World Bank’s first round of consultations on its development of a new Country Partnership Framework (CPF) for Egypt have released a statement with their observations and recommendations on the consultative process thus far.
Since the Bank launched its process of developing the first full-fledged country strategy for Egypt since the 2011 uprisings, a number of civil society organizations (CSOs) in the country have been active in voicing their demands to be part of this process, including through a set of practical recommendations for a meaningful and participatory process that takes into consideration the opinions and ideas of a broad range of stakeholders. The Bank has responded positively to CSOs’ recommendations, and developed a strong, multi-phase consultation plan in multiple regions of the country. The statement released by six Egyptian CSOs reflects their comments on the process thus far and urges the Bank to continue to adapt and improve the process to take stakeholders’ views into account more effectively.
